Children have their own feelings and desires, but they sometimes don't know how to express them. It can be difficult for parents to understand and support these feelings. This is where Nonviolent Communication (NVC) comes in.
NVC is a great way to better understand children and help them express their feelings. By listening carefully, validating and understanding feelings, we can support our children and build their self-esteem.
Here are a few simple tips to use NVC when communicating with children:
Listen: Listen carefully to your child without interrupting or judging.
Naming feelings: Help your child name their feelings.
Acknowledge: Acknowledge your child's feelings and show that you understand and appreciate them.
Understand: Try to understand your child's behavior from his or her perspective.
For example: If your child is mad because he doesn't get to play, you can say, "I understand that you're mad because you want to play."
Support: Help your child express and process his or her feelings and needs.
With NVC, you can build a loving relationship with your children and help them to understand and express their feelings better. Why not give it a try and be surprised at how easy it can be!
